We need your support

Solar energy can play a key role in achieving net zero carbon emissions targets as well as boosting the UK’s much-needed energy security.

A planning application has been submitted for Mousewell Solar Farm, a temporary solar installation on land south of Yate.

We need your help to make this happen.

What is being planned?

Delivering green energy

We want to deliver green energy on land near Westerleigh, south of Yate, to:

  • Help reduce energy bills

  • Power over 10,000 homes per year by generating renewable energy

  • Offset approximately 748,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions – equivalent to taking over 442,000 cars off South Gloucestershire’s roads!

  • Become carbon neutral by 2030

  • Support sustainable local initiatives by setting up a community benefit fund of up to £194,000

  • Introduce a biodiverse community area along with new planting and wildflower areas, bird nesting boxes and bat boxes

Climate change

CO2 levels have increased by more than 40% since before the industrial revolution. The main contribution to this is burning fossil fuels for energy.

Climate change is happening. 13 of the 14 warmest years on record have occurred in the 21st century and in the last 30 years, each decade has been hotter than the previous one.

Initiatives like the Mousewell Solar Farm will help us tackle the climate emergency.

Biodiversity

We’ll provide significant benefits to local biodiversity and ecology, with new planting and wildflower areas, bird nesting boxes and bat boxes. We will also introduce a biodiverse community area near Wapley Bushes Nature Reserve.

Battery storage

To fully utilise the network connection capacity, the farm will include battery storage to store energy for times of peak demand. It will provide on-demand services to the national grid and help meet national ambitions for increasing green energy and reducing the UK’s reliance on fossil fuel-based energy.
